Over-Barrel Suppressors

An over-barrel suppressor creates an additional suppressor chamber by forcing the noise and escaping gasses back over the barrel into this part of the suppressor - further enhancing noise suppression.

Here's a BIG warning - some gun smiths will port your rifle barrel by drilling holes through it - in an attempt to allow the noise and gasses to flow through these holes and into the over-barrel suppressor  - as well as causing any hyper-velocity bullet to be slowed to sub-sonic, thereby reducing the noise drastically. I WILL NEVER do this to a rifle barrel, as it literally ruins it and prevents you from ever reaching hyper velocity in your rifle.  (well, actually I have done it once or twice for special requests :-)

Having an over-barrel suppressor does reduce the length of the suppressor required past the barrel. Basically, the optimal size for a rimfire suppressor is 34mm diameter x 225mm length, this contains the exact amount of space inside the suppressor to work at optimal efficiency and noise reduction. For each 25mm the suppressor is over the barrel, 5mm can be reduced from the length past the barrel, to a minimum of 175mm past the barrel - give and take a little for the diameter of your barrel (which I can calculate.)

 Hi Roger...

I tried the suppressor today, and have to say that i was amazed! it exceeded my expectations!!!

i was expecting  a little bit of a bang and my sheep and goat to get frightened and maybe run away from me,  but they  did`nt even stir, they ,just kept on munching on the grass as i fired away...the sound of the bullet impact on a tree stump across the paddock was the loadest thing i could hear~~~wow!
Very nice!!  Nick.

Right : Leon contacted me to enquire about a custom over-barrel suppressor for his Remington 597 / Volquartsen.

He wanted something unique and different - to make his rifle 'one of a kind'.

My suggestion was an over-barrel suppressor anodized in gold - to match the color of his custom rifle stock. Call back soon for photos of the completed project.

I have made many over-barrel suppressors - and a few of them are shown below.

Below Left : This is the unit that screws onto the end of the rifle barrel, and is ported to allow the noise and gasses to flow through it and back over the barrel.

Below Right : This reverse flow venturi unit is the first piece inside the suppressor that turns and forces the noise and gasses back over the barrel.
